What's going on AROUND ME!Think +ve!
January 09 Oct 14, 2007 - Arrival of KayLee TanIt's been a really long time since I last went into this space of mine. Guess what? I have DELIVERED!
Let me tell you the story on how it all began:
Oct 12, 2007(Fri) - Went to see the gynae and gynae confirmed that it would not be a Raya baby (Raya is just next day Oct 13) because the head of the bb is not fully engaged. BB would not be due early and happily I went off to work.
Oct 13, 2007(Sat) - Hari Raya day. Woke up late and went for breakfast and then prepared to go my friend, Dr Shireen's house to attend her Open House. Had tonnes of food and of course infamous cakes(she had 20 types of cakes there). Had my fill and then went back home. Went out for dinner later(yes! it's all about food for this preggie!) and off we went to Tesco from 9pm to stock up in preparation for confinement. Was there for 3 hours (had tonnes to buy) and only left Tesco at 12 mignight.
Oct 13, 2007(Sun) - Went to sleep and woke up in the middle of the night around 3.30am due to stomach pain. Didn't feel right cos I noticed my panties were wet. Went to the toilet and changed panties and tried to sleep again. The pain came again consistently- every 5 minutes. Went to toilet again cos found my panties wet again but this time with some blood...Opps...doesnt look or feel right. Oh dear...it's coming. This time is for real. Called hubby downstairs (who is still watching TVB series) and informed him on the situation and was told to go to sleep (try)!! Arrghhh..how to sleep when the contractions were 5 minutes apart???? He finally came up and commented that it could be false alarm!! Can u imagine that???
He went to sleep in fact snoring beside me! Cis... and I was in pain every 5 mins. Contractions worsen and was getting stronger and waited and waited till around 6am where it was quite painful. Woke up hubby up and told him that I can't stand it anymore. Took a bath and took my hospital bag all ready to be admitted. Should have admitted earlier but we were worried that it was a Sunday, 2nd day of Raya, midnight - and would incur double charges. So I have no choice but to be patient and waited around 6ish before we went to the hospital. Walked into the hospital and right up to the 2nd floor and admitted myself.
7.00 am - Nurse came to check and commented how come I walked up all the way??? Then asked me to lift my legs at a table to check whether this is a false alarm or is it for real. Nurse checked and said that I was dilated for 2 cm and it's for REAL (she had to put her whole hand in - it was SUPER PAINFUL without any anaestatic. Contractions getting stronger and stronger. Asked hubby to admit me and do the necessary administrative procedures.
7.30 am - Nurse at Damansara Specialist Hospital asked me whether I need EPIDURAL. I shouted YES, please. However was told that the anaestetologist (or whatever u call him) just went back to rest as there were no emergencies the night before and left at 7am this morning.
Nurse called him to come back and I was told to be patient and wait. Nurse also called my gynae and told him about my situation.
8.00 am - Was pushed into the labour room in preparation. Was given a laxative through the anus to clear my bowel....that was another unpleasant experience. Gawd....Cleared everything (happened too quickly)... Then went back to the bed and waited. Hubby took some ugly photos of me. Only had 3 hours of sleep in total! Was put on the fetal heartbeat monitoring and also the contraction gauge machine.
8.30 am - Anaethethologist came and administered EPIDURAL - phew what a relief. Of course I had doubts but I think the pain was too great and overweigh the risks at that point in time (wasn't thinking really straight then). Really put my hats off to those mummies who never used EPIDURAL! Slept a while.
9.15 am - Gynae came to check and put in his hand again to check for dilation. This time round about 3-4cm.However this time I couldn't feel a thing cos numb from the epidural! But it was quite uncomfortable. Look was everywhere on the incontinence pad. Contractions are now every 2 mins but couldn't feel a thing. Gynae said bb should be out by 1pm but will come at 11am to check again on my progress. Was told to sleep to have the energy to push later. Hubby slept on the couch..too tired to talk anymore
11 am - Nurse came to check on me every now and then. Gynae came to check again - and mentioned dilation is slow and asked to put me on oxytocin to induce my labour. Went to sleep again.
11.45 am - Nurse check dilation - this time around 7-8cm. However the bb's head is not engaged and was told to push (practise) so that the bb can fall into the delivery canall for easy labour later. She also put in her hand to help turn the bb into the canal.
12.30 pm - Nurse check dilation - this time 9-10cm. Ready for labour. Called my gynae in and gynae checked and told me that the bb's face is facing upwards - had to use vaccum to suck her out! Was told to push hard (as tho' I am doing my 'big business') but push it long and hard for at least 10sec and at least consecutively 3 times before I can take a breather. That continued (I can't feel the pain but the labour looks difficult from the video) till the bb was safely delivered at 12.56pm!. BB did not immediately cry - doc had to clear her lungs and to wrap her up. Hubby was busy filming the whole process, totally forgot about cutting the umbilical cord. Gynae did some stiching while the bb was being cleaned up. Then the bb was passed to me and immediately asked me to feed her the colustrum from my breast. It is indeed a very special moment! :) Only MOTHERS can experience such joy!
Baby KayLee Tan
Weight: 2.9kg
Height: 48cm
A very pretty baby - with all her small fingers and toes all intact (nurse actually counted all the hands and toes in front of my hubby hhaha).
Indeed a miracle to have our own baby - a joy undescribable. The bonding is IMMEDIATE, so new mummies no worries about the MATERNAL INSTINCT. It will come naturally when u see the bb
More updates in my next blog!!! October 10 Oh dear...2 more weeks!Gosh, another 2 more weeks? Time really flies. Never expected that I would reach this stage - 38 weeks into pregnancy!!! Arghhh...
I am going through a mixture of feelings at the moment. Both excited and also nervous at the same time. Excited cos we would be seeing our bb soon (any minute now)! But also nervous because I really do not know what to expect from delivery, labour and becoming a mummy. Everything is so foreign to me, seems like the reading didn't help at all...sigh!
Oh did I mention that we have some sort finalised the name of our bb girl - it's baby KayLee which means Pure. It will be both a Chinese as well as an English name. And in Chinese, it means a victorious pretty lady - sounds complicated huh? And doesn't seem to jive with the Pure in English does it? hehe but both Matt and I loved this name at the first instance. We started off with Khai Ern which means merciful in Chinese but it was more of a boy's name. But both of us liked the middle name of Khai and since it was a girl(we hope that there will be no last minute suprises!!!) we decided to explore with the name Khai, Kay and ended up with KayLee or Khai Lee in Chinese.
Will be going for my 38th week ultrasound this Friday. The gynae will be advising us whether the baby's head has engaged(whether it is ready to come out) will be on time or slightly early. So just wait till next Tues where that would be my last update before I go on leave preparing for the arrival of the bb
The weight of the bb is also bearing down on my walk and sometimes I feel as tho' I am like a penguin. Haha. The water retention of my legs and hands esp in the morning has also worsen. Sometimes I feel like I am a walking balloon.. That's why I can never imagine how people would say a lady is at its prettiest when she is pregnant.
The sacrifices of a MOTHER!
September 12 6 more weeks to go!It is getting nearer and nearer. Yes I am talking about my delivery date! Both excited and nervous at the same time. Feels like the past 8 months just flew by and has not prepared me in anyway to become a MOTHER in another 6 weeks! Gosh...that is scary!
So far we have prepared the basic necessity for the arrival of the baby except for the baby crib! Not sure whether we should invest in one but theoretically we should cos the bb will be taken care by my in laws. And we would definitely need a crib for the bb to sleep in! Never done so much research in my whole life about this angel that would be joining us soon! Have I mentioned that how expensive it is to have a bb?? Time and time again I have stressed..if we do not have the money and the necessary mental preparation...it's going to be a really difficult journey esp for the first time parents. My sis has asked me to concentrate on the positive - enjoying motherhood(as not everyone is blessed to have a bb) and welcoming another addition to the family! Well I hope so, just can't stop thinking about the negatives(or maybe I am thinking too much??). Just let the maternal instincts kick in!
So do pray for me and I will have a safe delivery and everything will go on smoothly.
p/s: Have trouble uploading photos from my PC. Not sure why. Will try to upload some when it is ok August 20 HOLIDAY Was in Jakarta/ Bandung from the 9th - 13th Aug for a quick holiday before my delivery which is estimated to be on Oct 24. Well thanks to Air Asia in which I got my free tickets there! Hehe... And Not to mention to Melaine (a Gazillion Thanks) for the 4 Seasons voucher to stay in Jakarta for 2 nights. Muahahah
I have to admit that I love shopping in Indonesia cos it's cheap as compared to Malaysia and there are actually quite a lot of variety. We were quite impressed by the factory outlets in Bandung which sells practically everything from Tshirts to bb stuff to leather handbags - branded and non-branded. Guess what? I bought 3 branded handbags and 3 wallets from Bandung in that short 2 days! Damn broke I am now!
We woke up real early(cos the sun is up real early in Bandung) at 7.30am and went for breakast by 8am and out from the hotel by 9am and into the FACTORY OUTLETS we went! The factory outlets were located next to each other/ opposite each other within the same street. U can never finish walking all the outlets. They sell roughly the same thing but also not exactly the same thing - as in you might not get the same stuff in other factory outlets. So if you like something, grab it cos you might not be able to get the same thing elsewhere! It was tiring but yet exhilarating SHOPPING there. The only thing that I dislike is the fact that you need to negotiate the rates for the taxi!! Hated it cos they were charging different rates and it was very tired to negotiate each time u need to get a taxi, not to mention it was also not that easy to flag down a taxi!
But overall both me and Matt had a good time. For those who are keen on shopping, would definitely recommend Bandung. Bring an empty suitcase and come back with another 1-2 more August 01 Tired..so tiredSo tired! Had a late night yesterday. Attended the someone's birthday dinner which started at 8pm and finished around 1am! Think I am really getting old, do not particularly enjoy the small talks, socialising. Whilt some of of interesting characters and I genuinely enjoy talking to them but some...am sure you know what I mean! And it gets even worst when some of them get drunk..gosh these drunkards can go on and on talking about the same thing (I am not sure whether they realise what they were doing actually)
I can't wait to go home at 6pm sharp today. I am so tired..can hardly open my eyes this morning. Hopefully can catch a nap before dinner tonight but also worried that I might sleeep throughout the night once I hit the sack! Haha...that's me the piggy Preggie! Just can't wait to pig out!
Oh yes, I am so looking forward to go home this weekend to my hometown! Yippie :) I't been nearly 6 months since we went back for Chinese New Year! Hip Hip Hooray!
